R/C Racing

2011 Racing Schedule

The racing schedule consists of two seven race seasons, separated by the Anniversary Regatta and with a separate Fall Regatta.  Trophies are awarded for the Overall Season and each of the two special Regattas. All fleets sail under the following rules:
  • Each season is scored as a series, with each boat being awarded a place, even if they missed every race.
  • The following scoring system will be used for individual races:
    Place  Points
     1st  3/4
     2,3,4,etc  2,3,4,etc
     DNF  #Starters+1
     DNS  #Starters+2
     DNC  #Starters+3
     DSQ  #Starters+3
  • If a season completes only one race, the entire year will score as a single season.
  • If a season completes three or more races, there will be one throw-out race
  • If a season completes five or more races, there will be a second throw-out race
  • Ties are permitted at the season level.
  • Overall winners will be determined by adding the results of the individual seasons.
  • Ties will be broken by comparing the results of races where the tied boats both compete.
  • Ties unbroken by the above will follow ISF Appendix 8
  • Non-members may race with any of our fleets but must not interfere with valid racers and will not be scored.
  • Non-members may get retro-active scoring credit for two completed races upon joining the Club.
Fleet Handicapping

The R/C fleet races under the following:
  • All competitors must race with a class legal Nirvana 2 sailboat.
  • Each day's racing format will be determined by the Fleet Captain.  Typically, there will be 3 or 4 races with one throw out.
  • Ties are permitted
  • A skipper that wins two regattas will be assessed a lifetime 15 second starting penalty.
  • A skipper that wins two additional regattas will be assessed a lifetime 30 second penalty.
  • Sailors with non-conforming boats may participate in the race but must not interfere with valid racers nor will they be scored.
The Ocean fleet races under:
  • PHRF handicap system is used, with boats assigned the highest value cited in the PHRF rating documents.
  • Latis has a special handicap of 140 (10 seconds lower than the lowest documented rating).
  • Buoy races are raced using pre-handicapped courses, where finish position is determined by order of actual finish.
  • Point-to-point races finishes are scored based on elapsed times and PHRF rating calculations.
  • GPS marks should be "rounded" (as recorded on your GPS) or you must get within 25 feet of the mark (again, according to your GPS).  Tracks shall be preserved until any possible disputes are settled.
The River fleet races under:
  • Portsmouth Yardstick
  • Boat not having a published rating will be rated arbitrarily by the Race Committee.
  • Courses will be determined by the Fleet Captain
