For the Spring Season, the fleet will use s "golf handicap" system that works as follows:
Initally, all boats will be assigned hte "best guess" for a handicap derived from avalalbe publications of the national PHRF organization.
In a given race, if there are at least three finishers with recorded finish times:
1) The boat 40% down the handicapped finish order (2nd of 3 or .4 * # of finishers rounded to the nearest integer for more than 3 finishers) will be considered the "scratch boat" and their handicap will not be affected.
2) Other finisher's finishing time we be re-calculated relative to the scratch boat (in seconds) from the handicapped finish times. (Note our "GPS mark" method pre-handicaps the current handicap, so the values used are simply the actual finish time.
3) Each boat's time difference is divided by the length of the race, which results in the error per mile. 10% of this amount is added (or subtracted) from the boats PHRF rating, with a maximum change of 10 seconds per mile per race.
