Here's a new thread for this years drabble, which will generally be sent by me (Jim G.) or Alita, the fleet co-captain.
Hopefully everybody realizes our first race is (might be) Saturday April 10!
Right now, at least two regulars, Bushwacker and Alita Marie, are unlikely to make it. The weather forecast is not terrible as of now. A larger problem might be the high river flow combined with a low tide in the afternoon, making it tough to get back into port. I expect the flow to drop as we dry out through the week, but we'll have to make a judgement call at the Skippers Meeting. We'll be using the new "outside" course, which is available here. See everyone after the R/C races, 11am or so!
Sat N wind 15 kt. Wind waves 4 to 5 ft. NW swell 9 ft... subsiding to 7 ft.
The weather for Saturday is actually looking pretty nice, part;y sunny with negligible wind waves and a moderate swell. Our new outside course should get us out of the Chetco Pt. wind shadow that makes these lighter wind days so frustrating at the CR buoy. The real test will be whether we get enough boats to race, as Bushwacker and Alita Marie are unlikely entrants
SAT
N wind 5 to 15 kt...backing to W 5 kt in the afternoon. Wind waves 2 ft or less. Swell NW 8 to 9 ft.
The first peek at next Saturday's weather looks better than most for having a race. We'll see how it evolves over the week, and hopefully I'll get some feedback from Skppers during the week to avoid a last minute cancellation due to lack of boats.
Sat N wind 15 kt. Wind waves 5 ft. NW swell 9 ft...building to 11 ft.
The weather is still looking fair to good for racing, depending on the swells. At the moment, the actual swell at the buoy is smaller than forecast. I've heard from three boats that are planning on going out, so we might have a race! For those of you that are new to sailing in S. Oregon, the inability to predict events is just part of the sport.
Sat N wind 10 to 15 kt. Wind waves 2 ft or less...becoming 3 ft in the afternoon. Swell NW 10 to 11 ft.
